Join us on Monday 9th September 2024, as we explore the flavours of the fabled almond during ‘Orżata u Pastini tal-Lewż’ at the Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu.

Heralding the arrival of spring and featuring in countless myths and stories, almonds are a staple ingredient in many Mediterranean societies, thanks to the region’s ideal climate for their cultivation.

From Spain’s turron to Italy’s amaretti, Morocco’s tagines and Greece’s baklava, almonds have left their mark on various Mediterranean cuisines.

Participants in this session will delve into the history of this nut and two of its delicious by-products – the delightful pastini tal-lewż (soft almond biscuits) and the refreshing orżata (an almond-based drink).

There will be two sessions – each bilingual – one for kids from 09:00 till 11:30, and another for adults from 18:30 till 21:00.

Adult participants will be offered a glass of wine during each session, enhancing the culinary experience with a touch of local flavour. All attendees are encouraged to bring an extra container to take home their delicious creations.
