Discover the rich flavours and cultural stories behind ‘imqaret’ and ‘ġelat’!

Join us on September 16th, 2024, for a delightful exploration of these two beloved Maltese treats, at the Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu.

‘Imqaret’, derived from the Arabic word ‘maqara’ meaning ‘stuffed’, showcase the Arab influence on Maltese cuisine, while the Italian-derived ‘ġelat’ reminds us of a time when Malta relied on Sicily for ice, crucial in making ice cream.

Participants in this event will delve into the fascinating culinary history behind these treats, and then learn how to concoct their own renditions of them.

There will be two sessions – each bilingual – one for kids from 09:00 till 11:30, and another for adults from 18:30 till 21:00.

Adult participants will be offered a glass of wine during each session, enhancing the culinary experience with a touch of local flavour. All attendees are encouraged to bring an extra container to take home their delicious creations.
