Step back in time and rediscover the essential art of food preservation at our event ‘Imluħa għal mal-Ħobż’, taking place on Monday 15th July at the historic Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu.

In an era before electricity and refrigeration, preserving food was crucial for survival, and people relied on natural methods to extend the shelf life of their provisions. This bilingual session celebrates a skill that is gradually fading from our collective memory.

Designed for both kids and adults, each session is limited to a maximum of 10 participants, ensuring an intimate and engaging experience. The kids’ workshops will take place between 09:00 and 11:30, and the adults’ from 18:30 till 21:00.

Join us to learn and appreciate the traditional techniques of food preservation, a practice that followed the natural rhythms of eating seasonally and maximizing food’s shelf life. This event is a unique opportunity to connect with Malta’s culinary heritage and gain valuable knowledge that was once a cornerstone of daily life.

Adult participants will be offered a glass of wine during each session, enhancing the culinary experience with a touch of local flavour. All attendees are encouraged to bring an extra container to take home their delicious creations.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own glass jars.

Important disclaimers: Unfortunately, the venue is not wheelchair accessible, and the course may expose participants to potential allergens such as wheat, eggs, nuts, and gluten.

Tickets, priced at €30 for kids and €40 for adults, can be reserved online here Store – Heritage Malta or at any Heritage Malta museum or site.
