The Conservation of the Artistic Patrimony in Malta During World War II

An insightful overview of the measures taken to safeguard Malta’s national patrimony and other works of art during World War II. Limited human resources, lack of facilities and materials, inadequate storage facilities and lack of financial backing were some of the problems encountered. Working in extremely difficult conditions, artists had to double as conservators to recover and restore damaged artworks. This publication includes archival documentation on damaged artworks and relocated valuables.
