Through thorough research in both textual records and material remains, the author compiles an outstanding geographical index of scattered architectural Roman pieces which were recovered from various sites in the Maltese Islands. Moreover, by placing these artefacts in their immediate contexts, and using his insight of Vitruvius’s writing, the author also tries, whenever possible, to reconstruct the elevation of the buildings they belong to. The detailed study helps the reader to view these stone fragments as repositories of ideas, beliefs and ideology of the Roman culture at the time.
