Heritage Malta will be opening the National Museum of Archaeology free of charge on the 21st of September. Visitors will also be able to visit the unique exhibition “Malta, the great story of a small island-nation through 100 objects”.

The National Museum of Archaeology in Republic Street, Valletta exhibits a spectacular range of artefacts dating back to Malta’s Neolithic period. 100 Objects - 5Highlights on display include the ‘Sleeping Lady’ from the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, the ‘Venus of Malta’ from Ħaġar Qim, bronze daggers from the Bronze Age layers at Tarxien Temples, and the Horus and Anubis pendant and the anthropomorphic sarcophagus from the Phoenician Period.

Parts of the upper floor of the museum are currently hosting the temporary exhibition “Malta, the great story of a small island-nation through 100 objects”, which narrates the history of our islands. The visitor is enticed to embark on a walkthrough experience reaching back to the geological formation of the Maltese Islands 35 million years ago. The exhibition spans all the way to and covers the milestone constitutional achievements of the past 50 years of the nation’s history. While the setup is reminiscent of a timber vessel from the past, the interpretation of the objects makes use of the latest technology.

Those visiting the National Museum of Archaeology for free on the 21st of September will also have the opportunity of purchasing a number of Heritage Malta publications at a reduced price and benefit from a 10 percent discount on membership. For the occasion, a limited number of commemorative coins of the 50th anniversary of Independence will also be available for purchase.
