On Thursday 2nd May, Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, the President of Malta, paid a visit to Heritage Malta’s Head Office in Bighi and the maltabiennale.art at Villa Portelli, where several national pavilions are housed, both in Kalkara.
Upon her arrival, Her Excellency was warmly greeted by Mario Cutajar, Chairman of Heritage Malta and President of maltabiennale.art 2024, by Noel Zammit, Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Malta, and by the senior management team. She was then guided through the Paintings and Stone Conservation Laboratories, where she was briefed on the Agency’s ongoing conservation works.
President Spiteri Debono took the opportunity to engage with staff members from various departments of Heritage Malta, expressing gratitude for their contributions and commending their commitment to safeguarding Maltese heritage. She noted the significant transformation in the nation’s appreciation of its heritage over the past two decades since the establishment of Heritage Malta.
Her Excellency then visited Villa Portelli, where she interacted with representatives from maltabiennale.art national pavilions, including those of Ukraine, Italy, Spain, and Poland. Discussions centred on the concepts explored within the respective pavilions and the positive response from visitors engaging with the exhibited works.
Villa Portelli, recently entrusted to Heritage Malta, is set to become a hub for research and training in Maltese heritage, among other initiatives.
