More Calls for Applications for the maltabiennale.art 2026

Preparations for the maltabiennale.art 2026 are in full swing, with new calls for applications being announced to engage professionals from various sectors. Today, a call has been issued for the position of Communications Director, responsible for coordinating the marketing and communications strategy for the Maltese biennial. This announcement follows a similar one last month seeking an Artistic Director for the initiative, which is scheduled to take place from March to May 2026.

The inaugural edition of maltabiennale.art was successfully held this year across various historical sites in Malta and Gozo, receiving extensive coverage in international media. Organised by Heritage Malta, the biennale aims to enhance the relevance of museums and cultural sites for 21st-century audiences. Notably, the first edition was held under the patronage of the President of Malta and UNESCO, making it the only biennial out of 300 worldwide to receive such backing from a United Nations agency.

In addition to the recent call for an Artistic Director and the current call for a Communications Director, there will be further calls later this year in the curatorial and marketing sectors.

Mario Cutajar, President of maltabiennale.art and Chairman of Heritage Malta, stated that, “The success of the inaugural edition motivates the Agency to ensure that the second biennial provides an enriching experience for visitors, promotes Malta’s rich cultural heritage, strengthens the local art scene, and enhances Malta’s position on the global cultural calendar.” He emphasized the need for maltabiennale.art 2026 to offer a broader interpretation of the roles of museums and sites managed by Heritage Malta, making them more relevant to contemporary audiences.
