Summer Solstice at Mnajdra

This year join Heritage Malta at the prehistoric site of Mnajdra on the 20^th, 21^st and 22^nd (additional date) of June, and welcome Summer and the longest day of the year in unique way. Watch as the first rays of the rising sun enter the South building at Mnajdra and a narrow beam lights up the edge of a large pitted stone slab to the left of the central passageway.

As the builders of the megalithic sites were farmers, the return of longer days, more light, and warmth would have likely been welcomed. Members of the community may have gathered to experience the changing seasons together during the Summer Solstice.

Following the event, they will also have the opportunity to visit the other megalithic site, the Natura 2000 landscape and the visitor centre on their own.

Meeting point: 05.30hrs outside the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park Visitor Centre.
