Situation as Medium

‘Situation as Medium’ is an insightful lecture by Miami-based artist and educator Tom Scicluna, hosted by MUŻA. Reflecting on over 25 years of site-specific practice, Scicluna will explore the evolution of his work since his debut at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Malta. The talk delves into spatial practices, viewer participation, and the influence of site and context in art, followed by a hands-on Dérive-based workshop led by the artist titled ‘Mirror Drift, where participants will explore the streets of Valletta through creative reflection and documentation. Utilizing mirrors and personal cell phones, Scicluna and the workshop participants will collectively make their way through the streets of Valletta, documenting spatial and situational reflections, refractions, and displacements.
