Step into the serene gardens of Villa Frere for our monthly opening happening on May 5th!

Experience spring’s beauty in the tranquility of this once-forgotten sanctuary, originally created by British diplomat and philanthropist John Hookham Frere, who transformed his grief into these lush gardens. Discover a place of historical and botanical significance that once offered panoramic views spanning from Mdina to Valletta and served as a cultural hub for luminaries such as Mikiel Anton Vassalli.

Join us for guided tours, available in English at 10:00 and 14:00 and in Maltese at 12:00 and 16:00. Explore the beautiful landscapes that have been lovingly restored by the NGO Friends of Villa Frere, and learn about the ongoing efforts to preserve the gardens’ rich heritage. There will also be a selection of plants for sale, and refreshments will be available.

This month we’re excited to announce that the restoration of the interior of the Gardener’s Cottage is well underway, and visitors can now explore parts of this charming cottage.

A donation of €5 is kindly requested for admission, with all proceeds going towards the continued restoration of the gardens. Children enter free of charge. Heritage Malta passports are not applicable during this event. Dogs on a leash are welcome.

Parking is available inside St Luke’s Hospital’s grounds, behind Karin Grech Hospital. Please follow the signs from the gates of St Luke’s.
