Heritage Malta is thrilled to extend an exclusive invitation to its esteemed members for a special tour of the Old Abattoir in Valletta, a site rich in history and architectural significance.

This exploration, set for Saturday, 27th April 2024, delves into the fascinating backstory and urban impact of the ‘Biċċerija’. Led by Dr Christian Mifsud, Heritage Malta’s Principal Curator for Historic Buildings, attendees will have the unique opportunity to uncover the intricate narrative of this historic complex, from its architectural merits to the reasons behind its proposed demolition and the stories of the individuals who once called it home.

The tour will offer insights into both the exterior and the interior spaces of the Old Abattoir.

Participants can choose to join either the Maltese language tour at 10:00, or the English language tour at 12:00. Participants are kindly asked to gather at 09:45 for the first tour and at 11:45 for the second one, near the Abattoir fountain, which will serve as our meeting point.

Availability for this tour is exclusive to Heritage Malta members, and places are strictly limited to ensure a personal and in-depth experience. Tickets can be obtained from all Heritage Malta museums and sites, as well as online here: Store – Heritage Malta.

All attendees are reminded that they must present their Heritage Malta membership card on the day of the tour.

This is an opportunity to connect with the layers of history that shape Valletta’s urban landscape, through one of its most intriguing sites. Don’t miss this chance to explore the Old Abattoir’s past, the building’s architectural beauty, and its place within the heart of Valletta’s streets.
