Who said history is not in recipe books too?
The rich yet simple medieval concoction of kwareżimal, arguably a very valid representation of Maltese culture as it extrapolates elements from so many different cultures into one delicious bite, will come under the lens in Heritage Malta’s upcoming workshop for young food enthusiasts.
On Saturday 23rd March, youngsters aged 8 years and upwards are invited to roll up their sleeves and create their own versions of this popular Lenten treat steeped in history and flavour, at none other than the Inquisitor’s Palace, in the heart of Birgu, the Knights’ old headquarters.
Participants will get to make this traditional delicacy, and learn the tales locked up in its tastebud-enticing chewiness. Whilst its heartwarming aroma fills the air, we’ll delve into the traditional Lenten sounds, exploring the auditory heritage that accompanies this solemn season.
Two sessions are on offer – one in Maltese between 12:00 and 14:00, and another in English between 14:30 and 16:30. Limited tickets are available to ensure an enjoyable, intimate experience.
Tickets are priced at €15, and include admission for one accompanying guardian. Tickets will be available later to date.
Please note that unfortunately the location is not wheelchair accessible.
