One of the most beloved closed sites safeguarded by Heritage Malta is opening its doors for you!

Standing proud and majestic above Marsaxlokk Harbour, Fort Delimara is a classic example of a Victorian coastal fortification, built in the last quarter of the 19th century to protect the port below it. It will be welcoming visitors on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th April.

Beyond the beauty of the building itself, onsite there are still four 38-ton guns out of the six that were in commission between 1880 and 1901. These are the only guns of their kind worldwide still on their carriages and in their original casemate emplacements since 1880.

During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to explore all this and see with their own eyes the results of Heritage Malta’s efforts to restore this historic site to its former glory.

Eight guided tours will be held on both days – four in Maltese, at 10.00am, 12.00pm, 2.00pm and 4.00pm, and four in English, at 11.00am, 1.00pm, 3.00pm and 5.00pm. Tickets for these tours, available at very affordable prices, are limited and must be booked in advance here: Store – Heritage Malta or from any Heritage Malta site or museum. Only those who prebook a tour will have the opportunity to visit the Counterscarp Galleries, which will be accessible for the first time. The public may also buy tickets at the door, at slightly lower prices, however these will give access to the fort without the guided tours.

There will be various other activities that ensure fun for all. These include re-enactment shows about the World War II era, an opportunity to learn about airsoft weapons (this activity is donation-based), and a colourful programme for the little ones, with exciting adventures and experiments.

The fort will be open from 10.00am till 6.00pm on both days.
