A flavourful afternoon awaits on Tuesday, 11th June!

We will concoct one of the tastiest and most popular local snacks – the traditional Maltese ftira, whilst discovering its intriguing history, in the immersive ambience of the Inquisitor’s Palace.

This engaging workshop starting at 15:00 and ending at 16:30, is aimed at culinary enthusiasts aged 8 and over, offering participants the unique opportunity to get a closer look at the art, culture and history behind one of Malta’s beloved staples.

Under the guidance of experienced instructors, participants will learn the techniques involved in crafting the perfect ftira, starting with the dough that forms the base of this iconic dish. The workshop will include a demonstration followed by a hands-on session where participants will prepare their own ftira, with various traditional fillings such as: kunserva (tomato paste), bigilla (broad bean paste), and other classic ftira accompaniments.

Through a science experiment, participants will also be shown how yeast, an essential ingredient for the ftira, works.

This activity offers a unique opportunity to learn about Maltese culinary traditions and to engage with the culture behind the cuisine. Whilst mixing, kneading and seasoning, participants will gain insights into the flavours that have delighted Maltese palates for generations.

Please note: This workshop may expose participants to potential allergens such as wheat and gluten. Attendees with dietary restrictions should consider this before registering.

Spaces are very limited to ensure a personalised and interactive experience. Book your spot now at Store – Heritage Malta or at any Heritage Malta museum or site.
