In its ongoing endeavour to make cultural heritage more accessible, Heritage Malta has just launched a brand new 4D experience at the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Visitor Centre.
Ħaġar Qim temples have become more intellectually accessible than ever thanks to the seven minute 4D audiovisual experience which has just been launched in order to help the visitor understand better the significance behind the Neolithic temples.
The Ħaġar Qim 4D experience is a high definition movie in 3D enhanced with scents, lights, smoke and water, and its objective is to take the audience on a voyage, from the very first days featuring the construction of the temples more than five millenia ago, to the time when the temples were excavated up to this very day. The audiovisual helps understand better the temple culture on the Maltese islands and undoubtedly, is a tool to help the visitor appreciate and understand the site and its architecture, before actually visiting the site..
The temple of Ħaġar Qim, stands on a hilltop overlooking the sea and the islet of Fifla, not more than 2km south-west of the village of Qrendi. At the bottom of the hill, only 500m away, lies another remarkable temple site, Mnajdra found above the Southern cliffs. The surrounding landscape is typical Mediterranean garigue and spectacular in its starkness and isolation.
Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra temples are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, inscribed as part of ‘The Megalithic Temples of Malta’ in the World Heritage List.
