This year, Heritage Malta’s participation at the Malta Book Festival has been marked by the launch of a brand new e-commerce website as well as that of no less than seven new publications.

On Wednesday 4th November, the Hon Minister for Culture Dr Owen Bonnici together with Heritage Malta’s chairman Dr Joseph Buttigieg launched Heritage Malta’s brand new e-commerce website, as well as not less than seven new publications issued by the national agency at the Malta Book Festival. This is in sync with the mission of Heritage Malta which is not simply the administration of sites, museums and the national collection entrusted to it by the government, but also rendering such cultural assets acessible to everyone.

This is in fact carried out by the agency through various means such as temporary exhibitions, events, lectures, heritage trails, open days, conferences and educational programmes. One of the most important means through which Heritage Malta promotes cultural heritage is by means of publications and product development.

The books which are being launched are the Ġgantija Temples and Ħaġar Qim Nature Trail guide books – new additions to the Insight Heritage Guides series, Besieged 1565 edited by Maroma Camilleri, 1565: The Great Siege of Malta exhibition catalogue, the project publications of St Paul’s Catacombs and Fort St Angelo as well as Eighteenth Century Malta at a Glance, an illustrated explanation of the settlements, fortifications and placenames featured in a map pertaining to the National Collection. In fact, together with this book, one may acquire a high quality numbered replica of an eighteenth century manuscript map from ‘The Albert Ganado Map Collection’ treasured at the National Museum of Fine Arts – the second map produced by Heritage Malta within 2 years, the first one being a re-strike from the original plate of a Sebastiano Pauli Map.

All these can now be purchased online through Heritage Malta’s brand new online shop which will make accessible publications and branded merchandise. Through this e-commerce portal Heritage Malta will be reaching a wider, global audience and so meeting its main objective of making Malta’s unique cultural heritage more accessible!
