To mark summer solstice, Heritage Malta will once again be organizing guided tours of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st of June. Apart from visiting a World Heritage Site during summer solstice, those present will also have the opportunity to visit Hagar Qim Park’s Visitor Centre.

Summer solstice occurs once every year. Sunrise on the first day of each season underlines the relationship between the temples and celestial bodies. Although it is not known for certain whether these orientations were intentional, they are so systematic that this is very probable. In prehistoric agricultural societies, observation of the motion of the starts, the moon and sun could have been related to the changing seasons and times of planting and harvesting crops.

This year, Summer Solstice can be witnessed from either Hagar Qim Temples or from the Mnajdra Temples. Ticket costs 15.00 Euros per person and can be bought from any HM museum and site.?Tickets for Heritage Malta members are available?at the discounted price of 10.00 Euro.
