Heritage Malta launched its latest publication ‘Caring for our Heritage’ which is a collection of papers in the field of research, conservation and restoration following a conference which carried the same title.

Professor JoAnn Cassar, Chair of the Research Programme Sub Committee of Heritage Malta, and Godwin Vella, Head Curatorial Affairs Heritage Malta, said that this collection of papers is testimony to the efforts of Heritage Malta employees both in the field of research and conservation and restoration areas.

The conference was well attended and the audience included scholars, academics, students, cultural heritage professionals and interested individuals. The publication includes nine papers, varying from the protection of the photographic collection and archive material of Sir Temi Zammit, the Inquisitor’s Palace through the Book Launch 7 - lower resages, new discoveries during recent excavations at the Roman Baths and St Augustine Catacombs, the history of restoration and conservation in Malta, environmental monitoring at the Hypogeum, and restoration of paintings.

This publication is the 4th of the agency launched this year so far. Others are in the pipeline.

Whilst being presented by a copy of ‘Caring for Our Heritage’, the chairman of Heritage Malta, Dr Joseph M. Buttigieg, praised such initiatives and the contribution by Heritage Malta towards the protection of Malta’s cultural heritage.
