First step towards normality in the heritage sector
In line with the gradual lifting of public health measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Heritage Malta is re-opening six of its sites and museums.
During a press conference, Noel Zammit and Anthony Scicluna, Heritage Malta’s CEO and Chairperson respectively, announced that Fort St Elmo, Fort St Angelo, Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Temples, the Tarxien Temples, Ġgantija Temples, as well as the National Museum of Archaeology, will be open as of next Saturday.
These 6 sites will be open to the public between 10 a.m. and 5p.m., free of charge, every Saturday and Sunday in June.
Heritage Malta’s CEO noted that visitors are at the core of the Agency’s services, and explained that the sites will be in line with all guidelines issued by the health authorities, ensuring that the six sites are safe for all those who wish to enjoy the Maltese heritage. All spaces open to the public have been disinfected, and every visitor’s temperature will be read prior to entry.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, as an Agency, we have adapted our work to ensure that the Maltese and Gozitan population remain close to their heritage,” explained Anthony Scicluna, Heritage Malta’s Chairperson. “While the initiatives adopted will be kept, we will now also be able to offer a more holistic experience once more.”
It is expected that should this initial phase yield positive results, Heritage Malta will be re-opening even more sites and museums for the public to enjoy.
