On Tuesday 10th June, Heritage Malta cordially invites you to an evening guided tour of Fort St Elmo, marking the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War in Malta.
Fort St Elmo played a pivotal role during what became known as Malta’s second Great Siege. Serving as the Regimental Headquarters of the Royal Malta Artillery, it also bore the brunt of the first air raid on the island, recording Malta’s first military casualties of the conflict.
Until 1943, the fort continued to guard the entrance to Malta’s Grand Harbour, a prime strategic target throughout the war. Most notably, on 26th July 1941, Fort St Elmo was instrumental in repelling the only seaborne assault against the Maltese Islands.
This and many other wartime episodes will be brought to life during this compelling historical tour, offering unique insights into Malta’s wartime resilience and strategic importance.
The tour will start at 19:00. Tickets cost €12 for adults, €10 for seniors and students, and €8 for Heritage Malta members. Book your spot now at Store – Heritage Malta or at any Heritage Malta museum or site.
