This year Heritage Malta is offering everyone the opportunity to experience the millennia-old Spring Equinox phenomenon at the prehistoric site of Mnajdra, followed by a fresh breakfast at the Ochre Hall on the 21st of March.
Watch the sunrise as the first rays of the rising sun enter the centre of the doorway and light up the central passage and the niche of the South building, as has been happening for over 5000 years.
This significant event may have been observed and celebrated by the Neolithic inhabitants of the Maltese islands. An agrarian community, the changing of the seasons were probably important milestones in their annual calendar.
Meeting point: 05.30hrs outside the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park Visitor Centre.
Tickets: €40 per person, €30 for Heritage Malta members. Available from all Heritage Malta sites and museums and online here.
