Heritage Malta invites you to explore the recent history of Fort St Angelo during the British period in Malta, and to satisfy your taste buds with an exquisite Taste History lunch related to this epoch.
On 8th December 1906, Fort St Angelo entered a new historical era when it was transferred to the Admiralty and subsequently renamed as HMS St Angelo. In the following decades, the Fort served as a shore establishment, eventually becoming the ‘base ship’ of the entire Mediterranean Fleet!
It was modified to suit the operational needs of the Royal Navy and to accommodate the hundreds of British and Maltese sailors who lived and worked within its walls during its 73 years of service.
On Monday 8th December 2025, a public holiday and the anniversary of the Fort’s transfer to the Admiralty, join us as we explore the wider context behind this handover, the subsequent architectural modifications and, most of all, the remarkable stories of these sailors!
After the tour, enjoy a Taste History lunch inspired by a 1942 Royal Navy menu, served in the Fort’s historic British recreation room, now known as the Egmont Hall.
