On Sunday, 14th December, from 9am to 5pm, Heritage Malta is inviting you to ‘Christmas at the Museum’, an enchanting festive experience like no other at the National Museum of Natural History. Step into a world where nature, history, and the magic of Christmas come together in the heart of Mdina.
As you walk through the grand Baroque doors into the majestic front courtyard of the 18th-century Vilhena Palace, hosting a large Christmas tree as its centrepiece, the air will be filled with the comforting scent of warming spices and the joyful hum of carols.
Once a palace built by Grand Master Antonio Manoel de Vilhena in 1724, this majestic building – later a sanctuary during times of illness and healing – now transforms into a place of seasonal joy and discovery.
Inside its high, vaulted halls lie treasures of nature’s past, including a 4,000-year-old mummified Nile crocodile, the tooth of a giant prehistoric shark, delicate butterflies frozen in time, and the fossils of long-lost creatures.
Visitors, especially families and children, will delight in a day of festive activities, live music, and creative exploration. Father Christmas himself will await in a magical corner, ready to listen to children’s wishes and collect their letters.
A fascinating programme of events, tailored for people of all ages, awaits visitors on the day:
- Arrival of Santa Claus at 9:00am (Santa will remain on site until 5:00pm, posing for photos with visitors and receiving children’s letters)
- Face Painting (9:00am–2:00pm)
- Comicon Workshop ( 9:15am–10:15am)
