On Sunday, 1st June, we invite you to join the party tune!

Celebrate this important milestone with us as the National War Museum turns 50. Instead of a sweet, fluffy cake, we have concocted a full day’s programme of events and activities at the Fort, open for free, that will delight all audiences.

Hourly guided tours of the museum, alternately in Maltese and English, will start at 10:00 in Maltese and conclude with the last tour at 17:00 in English. These are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The George Cross medal, a highlight of the museum’s collection, will be reunited with the original letter from King George VI, kindly loaned for this special occasion by the National Library of Malta.

Historical re-enactments by the Malta Command World War II Living History Group and the Historical Re-enactment Group of Malta will bring history to life throughout the day. These will be complemented by a variety of activities curated by Heritage Malta’s Underwater Cultural Heritage Unit (UCHU), Diagnostic Science Laboratories (DSL), and the agency’s Education Department.

A new immersive experience, focusing on the pivotal role of the Bofors Light Anti-Aircraft gun, will also be inaugurated during the event. Weather permitting, a Piper J-3 Cub aircraft will perform a flyover of Fort St Elmo – a thrilling highlight not to be missed.

Admission is completely free.
