De Soldanis: An eighteenth century intellectual

This publication is a collection of papers and a catalogue of an exhibition titled ‘Giovanni Pietro Franceso Agius de Soldanis – an eighteenth century Gozitan, ecclesiastic and scholar’ commemorating his 300^th birth anniversary, organized together with the Ministry of Gozo, Malta Libraries and the University of Malta, in 2012. The essays present his academic works achieved through his love for his native country and the nation, his impact on the scholarly world despite set-backs encountered, his patriotic defence of the national interest from an oppressive government of the Order and his final years devoted to organize the newly founded Bibliotheca.
