The Old Prison and the Gran Castello Historic House, both located within the Ċittadella’s majestic fortress walls, have joined the list of Heritage Malta sites awarded the Quality Assured Seal by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA). Ġgantija Archaeological Park was also reconfirmed as a Quality Assured site.

The presentations of the three awards took place in the respective sites, in the presence of their curatorial team and Visitor Services officers, Heritage Malta’s CEO Mr Noel Zammit, as well as MTA’s Director of Product Development Mr Kevin Fsadni and Senior Manager of Licensing Mr Malcolm Zerafa. The delegation was guided around each historical site prior to the official awarding of the Quality Assured Seal.

Throughout 2024 and in the first weeks of this year, numerous other Heritage Malta museums and sites have either been reconfirmed as Quality Assured touristic attractions or received this prestigious award for the very first time. Those whose seal was renewed are the National Museum of Archaeology, MUŻA, and Fort St Elmo and the National War Museum in Valletta, Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park in Qrendi, Għar Dalam in Birżebbuġa, the Tarxien Prehistoric Complex in Tarxien, the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum in Paola, Fort St Angelo in Birgu, and St Paul’s Catacombs in Rabat. First-time seals were given to the Domvs Romana in Rabat, the National Museum of Natural History in Mdina, the Grand Master’s Palace in Valletta, and the Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu.

The Quality Assured (QA) seal is a Malta Tourism Authority voluntary quality recognition scheme covering key tourism business operations, including visitor attractions. The Quality Assured Seal for visitor attractions was launched in 2010 and covers a variety of places such as museums, historic houses and parks which offer unique experiences for old and young alike.

For an entity to receive this seal, it must go through a rigorous annual or biannual evaluation process which includes a wide range of criteria that ensure an excellent experience to the visitor. Some of these are facilities, cleanliness, environment, sustainability, and the services and experiences provided to the visitor.

These tangible recognitions of the daily efforts of our dynamic team to provide the best possible visitor experience in each and every Heritage Malta museum and site, fill us with enthusiasm to continue striving for excellence.
