The President of Malta, George Vella, accompanied by his wife Mrs. Miriam Vella had the opportunity to appreciate the artistic treasures of the National Museum of Art (MUŻA), located in Auberge d’Italie, Valletta. The President described this project as a prestigious endeavour that has resulted in a high calibre Museum which contains much to peruse and reflects the richness of the invaluable cultural heritage of our country.

During this visit, the President and his wife followed the four narratives of MUŻA, being: ‘the Mediterranean’, ‘Europe’, ‘the Empire’, and ‘the Artist’. Among the main works in the museum are those of the painter Mattia Preti and the sculptor Antonio Sciortino.

Heritage Malta Chief Executive, Noel Zammit said it was an honour for the national agency responsible for museums, conservation, and cultural heritage, to show the artistic treasures of our country to the Head of State.

On his part, Mr. Kenneth Cassar, Senior Curator with MUŻA, described the occasion as a unique one, whereby this project in the heart of Valletta has enabled the art history of our country to be accessible to all people.
