Heritage Malta has donated a comprehensive and varied selection of its publications to De La Salle College in Birgu, enhancing the school’s library with resources that bring Malta’s cultural heritage closer to students and educators.

The donation, officially presented during a visit to the College library attended by students and history teachers, brings together titles issued by Heritage Malta’s publishing house which range widely in type and topic.

It includes official guidebooks offering journeys into Malta’s museums and historical sites, in-depth studies on some of our islands’ prehistoric and ancient wonders, art-related publications such as exhibition catalogues and monographs about Maltese artists, copies of Tesserae – Heritage Malta’s bulletin – and publications addressing key moments in national memory, such as the Sette Giugno.

Recipe books delving into traditional Maltese cuisine rooted in seasonal practices, a comic book, a graphic novel, and ethnographic studies on Malta’s textile collections – including bridal and ecclesiastical garments, were also donated.

Through its publishing house, Heritage Malta continues to honour its mission of making heritage accessible beyond its sites and museums, as something to be experienced, understood, and connected with.

The donated collection is expected to support classroom teaching, independent study, and further exploration, offering students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the islands’ past through a variety of formats and perspectives.

Heritage Malta Chief Executive Officer Noel Zammit commented: “Making cultural and historical knowledge accessible to students and educators is central to our mission. By placing these publications directly in schools, we are aiming to not only support teaching and learning, but also foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a lasting appreciation of Malta’s history and identity amongst upcoming generations.”

Norbert Zahra, Head of School at De La Salle College, said: “If we forget our heritage – whether as an institution or as a nation – we risk losing our identity. At De La Salle College, we strive to ensure that our values are not only taught, but lived. Preserving our Maltese heritage is vital. These books, generously donated by Heritage Malta, will help strengthen this element within our students’ education. We thank Noel Zammit, Heritage Malta’s Chief Executive Officer, for this valuable contribution.”

This initiative forms part of Heritage Malta’s ongoing efforts to expand its educational outreach and ensure that its research, interpretation, and publications continue to reach new audiences.
