Ta’ Bistra catacombs

Heritage Malta will be taking part in this year’s ‘Festa Frawli’, organized by the Mgarr Local Council.

Throughout the day, Heritage Malta will also be offering guided tours of the Ta’ Ħaġrat temples, which are to be found nearby to the square. Tours to this site will be held every hour throughout the day. Entry to the temple will be 1 Euro. Visitors will have the opportunity to appreciate such temples, which are amongst the oldest free standing buildings existing in the world.

One of the projects currently entrusted to Heritage Malta is a European Union EAFRD project whose aim is to study, research, conserve and safeguard two main sites; Għajn Tuffieha Roman Baths, located in Għajn Tuffieħa, Mgarr, and Ta’ Bistra catacombs situated in an area known as Tat-Tarġa, on the fringe of Mosta. The aim of this project is to enrich the visitor experience in the long term by preserving the sites and providing access to them for the enjoyment of present and future generations.

Another project is the Malta Temples Landscape Project. Research based, this project is the result of collaboration between Heritage Malta and the Cultural Heritage Superintendence, the University of Malta, Bournemouth University, and the German Archeological Institute. The aim of this project is to try and establish a link between the temples and the surrounding agricultural area, in order to study these temples within their specific environmental context. For the time being, this research is based around the Skorba Temples however future plans include investigation within other areas.

The 5th edition of the ‘Festa Frawli’ will take place on Sunday 10th April, from 10am onwards. For this special event, free ‘Park and Ride’ will be offered from Ta’ Qali.
