This summer, Heritage Malta is inviting the next generation of creators to explore art, heritage and sustainability through its 2025 Student Summer Programme. Running from July to September across Malta and Gozo, the programme offers 17 dynamic workshops for children aged 6 to 13, all inspired by the Malta Biennale 2026 and its thought-provoking theme: Clean, Clear, Cut

Developed as a cultural and creative run-up to the Biennale, the programme reflects core ideas of environmental care, sustainable living, and social connection. Through hands-on activities such as drawing, movement, collage-making, weaving, calligraphy, botany, baking, and expressive art, each workshop guides participants to explore these themes in a playful and meaningful way.Venues include iconic sites such as MUŻA, the Inquisitor’s Palace, the Grand Master’s Palace, Ġgantija Archaeological Park, and Ta’ Kola Windmill offering children a unique chance to connect with their heritage while envisioning a better future.

In his speech during the programme’s launch, Dr Owen Bonnici, Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government, praised the leadership and workers of the Agency and said that initiatives such as this are very beneficial for the strengthening of Malta’s cultural ecosystem.
Heritage Malta’s Chairman and President of the maltabiennale.art 2026, Mario Cutajar, explained that: “The Malta Biennale made its way into the Maltese calendar to become the link between the past and the present – the new understanding of our history to comprehend the present and ourselves better. Art is the tool to discuss what is around us in the framework of heritage. This summer programme by Heritage Malta seeks to prepare tomorrow’s generations to better understand their environment through art and appreciate more the importance of safeguarding museums as beacons of knowledge and relevance for society.”

The programme is open to all children and teenagers holding a Heritage Malta Student Passport, which can be obtained for free from all schools across Malta and Gozo. Tickets include entry for one accompanying adult and can be purchased online here or from any Heritage Malta site. Guardians are encouraged to book early to secure their child’s place, as spaces for each activity are limited. The programme leaflet can be downloaded here, and physical copies will be available at Heritage Malta museums and sites. For more information and to view additional details on each event visit here.
